When Carpet Extraction Is Appropriate
Carpet extraction is appropriate only after the water source and contamination risk are assessed. Clean supply water affecting a carpet briefly presents different conditions from sewage, groundwater, or long-standing water.
Do not use household vacuums on wet carpet. Avoid walking through the area when water may contact electrical equipment or contain contaminants.
Carpet and Pad Assessment
Carpet assessment examines more than the visible pile. We review:
- Water source and exposure duration
- Carpet fiber, backing, seams, and delamination
- Pad material and saturation
- Tack strips and perimeter edges
- Moisture in wood or concrete subfloor
- Adjacent baseboards and lower walls
- Odor, staining, and visible contaminants
The assessment determines whether standard mitigation is appropriate or a specialized remediation provider is needed.
Our Extraction Process
Extraction removes liquid water with a tool suited to the material. A wand, weighted extractor, or wet-recovery machine may be used for repeated passes across accessible carpet.
Removing more water mechanically reduces the amount that must evaporate. After extraction, air movers circulate air across the treatment area and dehumidifiers collect released vapor. Equipment placement depends on carpet condition and whether the material is suitable to remain.
Drying and Moisture Verification
Drying verification tracks carpet, accessible pad areas, subfloor, and ambient humidity. Surface touch is not enough because lower layers can remain wet.
We repeat readings at documented locations and adjust airflow as conditions change. If the carpet or pad cannot be dried appropriately, we report that condition without extending the service into replacement.
Our Mitigation-Only Service Boundary
Our water-damage service is mitigation only. It includes carpet water extraction, moisture mapping, air-mover placement, dehumidification, and drying verification. It does not include carpet cleaning restoration, stain treatment, odor treatment, seam repair, stretching, pad replacement, carpet installation, subfloor repair, rebuilding, or reconstruction.
Contaminated or unsalvageable materials require a specialized remediation, flooring, or reconstruction provider.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you extract water without removing the carpet?
Sometimes, when the water source, carpet condition, pad, subfloor, and exposure time support in-place mitigation. Assessment comes first.
Will extraction remove stains or odors?
No guarantee applies. Our work removes water and supports drying, not cosmetic cleaning or deodorization.
How do you know the pad is dry?
We use accessible moisture readings and drying trends. Some pad types cannot be reliably dried in place.
Do you replace carpet or pad?
No. Replacement and installation are outside our mitigation-only water-damage scope.
